This year, for Employee Appreciation Day, Go Plant is proud to shine a spotlight on one of our own, Strategic Partnerships Manager, Josh Harrison. His remarkable journey of compassion and selflessness serves as a shining example of the values we champion at Go Plant.
Josh’s story began in May 2021 when he and his wife responded to an advertisement calling for volunteers to join the Anthony Nolan register, after hearing of a local girl that was in desperate need of a stem cell transplant. Selflessly, they both signed up, hoping they would be a match.
Although neither was a match for the girl, in December 2021 Josh received a life-changing phone call. He was informed that he was a potential match for a stem cell transplant recipient in urgent need. Despite the challenges that lay ahead, Josh remained steadfast in his commitment to making a difference.
However, his journey was not without its obstacles. A setback occurred when Josh contracted COVID-19, delaying the donation process. Undeterred, he persevered, rescheduling the procedure, and undergoing the necessary preparations, including a series of painful stem cell-boosting injections.
Finally, in January 2022, Josh underwent the life-saving donation at Sheffield Hospital. His act of kindness and generosity proved successful, offering hope and a chance at recovery to the recipient, whose identity Josh hopes to learn more about in the future.
Motivated by his experience and the life-changing impact of the Anthony Nolan Charity, Josh has taken further action to support their mission. He has embarked on a fundraising endeavour, preparing to participate in The Great Birmingham Run to raise both funds and awareness for the cause.
